Established in 2003 as an initiative to generate funds for Doernbecher Children's Hospital, Nike's Doernbecher Freestyle Program unites Nike designers with patients from the hospital to craft exclusive designs for a limited annual release of Nike's renowned footwear models. Amongst the 13th collection in 2016, the Jordan 7 underwent the Doernbecher transformation with the creative collaboration of 10-year-old Damien Phillips. Drawing inspiration from his adoration for the Chicago Bulls and his passion for playing the guitar, the sneakers boast a Bulls-influenced color scheme comprising textured leather in red and black. Complemented by a black midsole and a translucent outsole, this iteration incorporates distinctive design elements such as a guitar pick lace stay, a guitar-inspired heel pull, and an animated illustration of the young designer himself on the sole.
