Tom Sachs and Nike collaborated to create NIKEcraft, a line of products specifically designed for athletes instead of the general consumer market. The collaboration resulted in the release of a limited edition capsule collection in 2012, consisting of jackets, bags, and the innovative Mars Yard shoe. This unique collection was part of Sachs' immersive art installation called SPACE PROGRAM 2.0: MARS, which showcased various elements like a Mars Rover and a solar-powered boombox. The Mars Yard shoe itself displayed a distinctive design, combining Maple suede and Natural Vectran materials, highlighted by a vibrant Sport Red Swoosh and heel/tongue pull tabs. Its outsole featured a modified Free sole with a denser foam and enhanced traction, providing optimal performance for athletes.
