The Classic Cortez pays homage to the iconic blue shoes worn by Nike product tester Kenny Moore during his runs in Eugene, Oregon. On one unfortunate occasion, Moore suffered a broken third metatarsal in his foot, piquing the interest of his coach and future Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman. Upon inspecting Moore's running shoes, Bowerman identified the lack of arch support as the culprit. This led to the development of the world's first running shoe with full-length midsole cushioning. Released in August 2017 as part of a limited edition quickstrike, the Classic Cortez features a premium suede upper in Varsity Royal, accentuated by a white Swoosh. Complementing the design is a Sail sole and a sockliner adorned with the X-ray image of Moore's fracture.
