The Lance Mountain x Air Jordan 1 Retro SB QS is a tribute to the 1987 skate video, The Search for Animal Chin, where Lance Mountain, a professional skater from Pasadena, can be seen sporting an Air Jordan 1 'Royal' sneaker on his left foot and a white/Carolina blue Air Jordan 1 on his right. During that time, West Coast skaters adopted the Jordan for its sturdy leather construction, extensive ankle coverage, and innovative Nike Air technology. In order to prolong the lifespan of their Jordans, skaters would wear mismatched pairs, occasionally painting them the same color to create a uniform appearance. Bringing back this do-it-yourself aesthetic, the Lance Mountain x Jordan 1 SB showcases a black/red and black/royal colorway, which gradually reveals an underlying coat of white paint with each ollie and flip trick performed, resulting in a unique design that reflects the individual skater. This sneaker was released in limited quantities in June 2014 as a two-pack, alongside another colorway treated with a black paint finish.
