Nike partnered with Japanese retailer atmos in 2002 to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Air Max 1 silhouette by creating a collaborative design. The outcome was the iconic Air Max 1 B 'Atmos Safari', which drew inspiration from Tinker Hatfield's 1987 Air Safari sneaker. This rendition showcased a distinctive Safari print on the mudguard and ankle collar, complemented by a mixture of canvas, suede, and gum outsole materials. Another noteworthy detail is the inclusion of a miniature Swoosh on the lateral forefoot. Later on, in 2016, the Air Max 1 Safari received a re-release featuring a hairy suede toe box and an eye-catching icy blue translucent outsole.
