The Tuskegee Airmen, comprising the 332nd Fighter Group and 477th Bombardment Group, were African-American military pilots who valiantly served in World War II. Despite prevailing discrimination within and outside the Army, they made groundbreaking history by becoming the first African-American aviators in the United States Armed Forces, and carried out an impressive total of over 1,500 missions during the war. As a tribute to their remarkable legacy, Nike released a special collection in 2005, designed to honor the Airmen during Black History Month. This collection includes an Air Force 1 Mid featuring captivating graphics inspired by the distinctive decals that adorned the aircraft of the Tuskegee Airmen.
