In 1985, Chuck Kohn, a sports photographer, captured an iconic image of Michael Jordan donning the Air Jordan 1 Royals. This photograph, which later became a Nike poster, marked the first time the public witnessed Jordan sporting the Air Jordan 1 sneakers. Interestingly, Jordan, well-known for his affinity for this particular color scheme, deliberately chose the Royals as the inaugural Air Jordan 1 model available for purchase. It is noteworthy to mention that out of the Top 3 Air Jordan 1 Retro colorways, namely the 'Banned' and 'Chicago', Jordan never wore the Royals during his games. Since its initial release in 1985, the Royals have witnessed subsequent launches in 1994, 2001, 2013, and 2017.
